Tibo fixed a week of X envy with one customer interview

The same feature that got a shrug on the timeline blew away a paying customer.

Tibo says the feeling of watching everyone else do amazing things on X was draining all his energy and leaving him feeling behind. His fix was not a productivity system. He ran a customer interview, showed a new feature, and the customer was blown away.

The contrast is the whole story. The same work, he says, gets a "meh" on X. One real person on a call reacted differently enough that he describes his energy as refueled 200% and says he now wants to ship far more.

Two audiences, two verdicts

It is worth being precise about what happened here, because it is easy to read this as a motivational note. It is not. Tibo is describing two different feedback channels giving opposite readings on the same feature, and only one of those channels is made up of people who pay him.

X rewards novelty and scale. A feature that solves a specific, boring problem for an existing customer reads as unremarkable to a timeline full of founders who are not that customer and never will be. The same feature reads as excellent to the person whose day it just got easier. Neither audience is lying. They are grading on different scales.

The practical trap is that the timeline is always available and the customer call is not. Posting takes two minutes and returns a number. Booking an interview takes scheduling, a conversation and no public score at the end. So the cheap signal crowds out the expensive one, and founders end up calibrating a product roadmap against an audience of peers.

The business read

This is one founder's account of one call, not a study, and nobody should read it as proof that customer interviews cure burnout. But the underlying point is hard to argue with. Comparison on a public timeline measures you against other builders. A customer interview measures you against the problem you actually sell into. If the two disagree, the one with a credit card attached is the one worth acting on.
