Marc Lou ships 13 MailCheap features in one go

Custom domains, automatic list cleaning and the end of the 30 day warm-up, all in one post.

Marc Lou posted a 13 item shipping list for MailCheap, the newsletter tool he has been building in public. The list covers HTML blocks and buttons in the editor, publishing to email, web or both, a custom domain for your newsletter site, personalization with any custom field, preview as any subscriber, subscriber profiles, contact filters and segment pages, automatic list cleaning, an AI spam check before you send, daily DNS checks on your domain, an Ultra plan at 5M emails a month, and an affiliate program paying 30% recurring.

This would have taken me months before AI.

It's insane how we, humans, got upgraded 100x in the last 2 years.

The one buried in the middle is the interesting one. "No more 30-day warm-up" means new senders are not asked to ramp volume slowly before the system trusts them, which is the single most annoying part of moving a list to a new provider.

Lou's own framing on the batch is that it would have taken months before AI, and that humans got upgraded 100x in the last two years. That is his read on his own output, not a measured one, and the usual caveat applies, a shipping list is a list of things that exist, not a list of things that work.

The business read

This is the clone argument playing out in public. MailCheap launched against incumbents on price, and Lou has said it went from three figure MRR to four figures in ten days. The counter from any established newsletter platform is the feature gap, all the unglamorous surface area that took them years. Custom domains, segments, list hygiene, deliverability checks. Lou just posted thirteen of those in a single update.

Whether the gap actually closed is a different question from whether the checkboxes did. Deliverability in particular is reputation earned over time, not a feature you merge. But if you are the one defending a mature product, the honest version of your moat is no longer "we have the features". It is support, trust and the cost of someone moving their list.
