MailCheap hits 4-figure MRR in 10 days, Marc Lou says
The newsletter tool got to $1K a month in ten days. DataFast took three months to do the same thing.
Marc Lou says MailCheap is in the four-figure MRR club ten days after going on sale. He called the number himself, so treat it as a founder's own report rather than an audited figure, but he has been posting the climb publicly since launch and called the two-week mark early.
it took DataFast 3 months to reach $1K MRR (now at $30K MRR). So MailCheap is 9x faster!
The comparison he reaches for is his own analytics product. DataFast took three months to reach $1K MRR (monthly recurring revenue) and now sits at $30K. By that measure MailCheap is nine times faster off the line, which is the framing Lou put on it.
The slow version, from the same founder
Earlier in the week Lou posted DataFast's birthday numbers and they read very differently. Eight months to $3K MRR, then a year of growth, then a plateau at around $30K MRR on roughly 220 million page views a month. His own summary of that arc was that building a SaaS is hard and takes time.
So you have one founder, two products, and two completely different opening chapters. That is the useful part. The ten-day result is not a new playbook that beats the three-month result, it is the same person launching the second time with a much bigger audience watching and a competitor price point people already understood.
What actually transfers
The launch is copyable. The timeline is not. Lou sells MailCheap against beehiiv's pricing, he posts delivery stats and signups as they happen, and he already had people reading. A first product has none of that, which is roughly what the DataFast numbers describe.
Also worth holding onto, the thing that got to $1K in ten days is not the thing that got to $30K. DataFast needed eight months for the first $3K and then went somewhere real. Nobody knows yet whether MailCheap's ten days means a bigger ceiling or just a faster start, and Lou has not claimed it does.
The business read is that speed to first revenue measures distribution, not product quality. If you are building your first thing with no list, the DataFast timeline is the honest baseline to plan against.
It's a great reminder that building a SaaS is hard and takes time.
